Theatre of Yugen seeks a Theatre Manager/Technical Director to support the activities of this 40-year-old San Francisco-based theatre company’s 60-seat venue. We are looking for a meticulous individual who has excellent follow through, organizational skills, self-motivation, and a friendly/positive attitude for a part-time (10-hour a week) administrative position. Primary responsibilities include scheduling space and technical staff, contract negotiations, space and equipment maintenance. Must possess the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, be able to work independently, as well as in a team. Ours is a creative, friendly and casual work environment, with opportunities to gain exposure to a niche arts community.
Time: Minimum 10 hours/month - see below
Compensation: Minimum $800 / month; paid semi-monthly - see below. W2.
First choice of House Technician work shifts
As a regular rental and production house, Theatre of Yugen frequently relies on overhire technician work. Technical Director may opt to take House Technician shifts as desired.
House Technician pay is $22 per hour
House Technicians are hired in 4 hour minimum blocks
House Technicians receive overtime pay of 1.5x the Technician hourly rate for time beyond 8 hours per day, or 40 hours per week.
Use of our theatre venue for rehearsals or other appropriate activities when space is available
$10/hr staff discount on rehearsal space, and 10% discount on performance rentals
Comp tickets to see performances at our venue when seating is available.
Preferred Qualifications -
Excellent written and verbal communications skills; attention to detail.
A solid knowledge of technical theatre equipment and procedures.
Strong negotiation & people management skills.
Ability to work independently, flexible, team-oriented.
Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize work assignments.
Ideal candidate would have previous knowledge of Theatre of Yugen
Responsibilities of the Positions –
Assist General Manager with rental inquiries, primarily with technical queries
Schedule technicians and house managers for renters (including hiring and ensuring training)
Manage space and equipment maintenance
Report rental issues (i.e. rules violations or damage/repair/replacement process) to General Manager for further handling.
Manage online profiles for the venue (i.e. Bay Area Spaces listing)
Assist with maintaining accurate Google Calendar for rentals and Theatre of Yugen
Assist with other duties as needed
Coordinate with Theatre of Yugen Production teams to create a load in schedule
Generate load in, tech, and strike schedule and labor requirements
Assist in maintaining production personnel labor budgets
Prepare facility for all productions’ technical needs, including lighting, projection, scenic, and sound
Restore space to repertory
Hire or staff, and train any necessary house technicians for load in and strike
Hours accrued as House Technician are as desired and not inclusive of hours for Technical Director and should not be reported as such.
Positions reports to Artistic Director.
